Farm Bureau is a grassroots voluntary membership organization. The largest farm organization in the nation.

When a member joins a county Farm Bureau, he or she becomes a member of the Illinois Farm Bureau. However, individuals do not hold membership to the American Farm Bureau Federation, the national organization. Only the state Farm Bureaus are members of AFBF.

We have two classifications of memberships: farmer members are members who have over $2,500 gross income from farming per year. Associate members do not have any farm income and join for the services that we provide.

Livingston County Farm Bureau has over 5,000 members: over 1,800 are farmer members.

The Livingston County Farm Bureau has its own board of directors. There are 18 representatives serving the 6 districts in the county. These directors also serve on committees:

Legislative - work with our legislators on issues concerning the agriculture. One of the most important functions of the Farm Bureau is that it provides a strong voice in the legislature at Springfield and Washington to represent agriculture's interest. Our lobbyists read every bill that is submitted to see if it will affect agriculture in some way. Many times our lobbyists contact the county Farm Bureaus to urge our members to contact their legislator concerning an issue.

Local Affairs - deals with property tax issues and local government.
Real estate taxes paid on farmland average $13 million, about 30% of the total taxes expended.

Marketing - provides programs to help farmers better manage their farming operation.
Soy biodiesel -working on billboard to promote this renewable fuel.

Foundation - provides scholarships for students entering a field of agriculture.

Membership - promotes membership into the organization. Works to offer services and benefits for our members.

Ag in the Classroom - to educate adults and children about agriculture.
Debbie Ruff serves as the Livingston County Agriculture Literacy coordinator.

Women's Committee - helps provide agricultural educational programs and health and safety programs.

Young Leader's Program - Provides men and women, ages 18-35, leadership and development opportunities.
